CPTextField needs select method

Ross and I have decided that CPTextField needs a utility method for selecting the text it contains.
[textField selectText:];
Currently, I am using a hack:
[CPTextField inputElement].select(), however in order for this to work it must be immediately preceded by console.log([CPTextField inputElement].value), otherwise the text field simply won't select.
