Before I wrote this thread:

I had attempted to use protocols to see if it would work. I noticed that (without an @protocol declaration anywhere) the following doesn't generate a parse error:
@implementation MyClass : CPObject < TheAreNoProtocolsInObjJ > {
}
I figured I'd mention it ;)
